Voltwood

About the Game

The map is never the same twice.

Every VOLTWOOD map is procedurally generated. The checkpoints, the resources, the blockers, the enemy types and amounts are a unique combination every time you play. If you want to replay or share a map, use its map ID.

You compete to maximize kills, not just kill the wave.

VOLTWOOD is a maze-building tower defense built to be competitive. Kill as many enemies as you can during each wave — and configure difficulty to boost your score for doing so. Building a good maze will help you kill more; building the best maze will earn you a spot on the leaderboard for that map.

Read your waves.

Enemies are data-driven compositions, creating unique blends of challenges. A deep roster of enemy types with real mechanics — phase shields, damage caps, splitters, mergers, frontal plows, air lanes, blink relays, self-repairing hulls, tower-jamming auras, an adaptive mirror, and bosses that fissure into fragments. View the wave composition in advance and plan your design to match it.

Survive each wave by meeting or exceeding par.

In the competitive modes, every wave has a calculated number of kills you must meet — its par. Kill enough, and you boost your Core's health. Kill too few and your Core loses health. Lose too much health and it's game over for that map.

Pick the right tower upgrade module for the job.

Kill more enemies by picking the right modules for your wave composition and map — upgrade modules layered over your tower's base barrel. Fuse them together to create unique merged effects. Choose wisely and you will be rewarded with more efficient kills.

Research unlocks and boosts.

A giant tech tree helps you focus on the most valuable unlocks and take advantage of global modifiers.

Resource scarcity adds depth.

Scarcity is part of the challenge. Power your buildings; mine, refine and trade for resources to advance your build. Resource availability and costs vary by map.

Oh, and your Command Center fights too.

Unlock Command Center modules with unique abilities: hypersonic missiles, drone swarms, stasis fields, hero barracks and more.

Dial up the challenge.

Difficulty settings let you raise the challenge — and your score — in competitive Torrent play. In casual mode, custom run options let you get creative and make the game easier or harder, to create the kind of experience that is the most fun for you.

Show off in the weekly Gauntlet.

After practicing solo in Torrent, show off your skills on the daily or weekly maps — or in the weekly Gauntlet, a unique sequence of maps to run through each week. Earn boons and coins that power your progression inside the run. Play for high score and rank on the Gauntlet leaderboard.
