Unhistorical Warfare

Unhistorical Warfare

About the Game

Unhistorical Warfare is the ultimate warfare sandbox. Muster armies from across the vast expanse of human history and watch them fight in real-time, under AI control or your direct command. Find out what happens when a Roman legion meets a Panzer IV, when a war elephant runs into a squad of Napoleonic grenadiers, or when medieval knights charge a Confederate line.

31 armies, 480 BC to 1991

Every army is drawn from a real force at a real moment, with the troops it actually fielded:

  • Ancient: Achaemenid Persia, Macedon, Carthage, Rome, Gaul

  • Medieval: Tang China, the Norse, Byzantium, the Ayyubids, Jerusalem, the Mongols, the Empire, Scotland, England, France, the Teutonic Order

  • Gunpowder: the Ottomans, the Mexica, Sengoku Japan, the Spanish tercios

  • Black powder: the Continental Army, Napoleonic France, Britain, Imperial Russia, the Union, the Confederacy, the Zulu

  • WWII: the Wehrmacht, the Red Army,

  • Gulf War: the US Army, the Republican Guard

Sarissa phalanxes, longbowmen behind dug pits, schiltrons of Scottish spears, janissary matchlocks, redcoat volleys, rifled muskets, MG42s and 120mm tank guns all exist in the same simulation and all behave as they should.

Features

  • 30+ armies and roughly 200 unit types, each with era-appropriate weapons, armour and animation

  • Individually simulated soldiers with morale, fatigue of the line, flanking and routing

  • Pila, arrows, bolts, sling stones, matchlock balls, volley fire, round shot, tank shells, machine guns and magic, all modelled separately

  • Vehicles that crush infantry under their tracks, explode when killed and leave burnt-out wrecks

  • Ten battlefields with terrain that changes how the fight goes

  • Upgrades: five stages each of Experience, Weapons, Armour and Leadership, applied per unit. Make elites of history's greatest fighting forces!

  • Battles resolve in two to four minutes; a full after-action report tells you who killed whom

  • Five AI generals, from Hapless to Legendary, for the enemy or for your own army if you would rather watch.
