Tales of the Trade
About the Game

Your grandfather placed a file in the wrong cabinet. This 'little misunderstanding' started a war between three guilds and unleashed chaos across the land. After many years of war, these three major guilds blamed the old man and imposed a fine of 100 billion gold. But don’t worry. Over fourteen years, your grandfather and father managed to pay off 20 gold of it. Yeah, the good news ends there. Now, the debt is yours. Start small. Stock the shelves, set the prices, and try not to go bankrupt before lunch. Get a bigger shop, better shelves, and worse tax files.

Nobody in the Wolbaurr Kingdom pays a full price. A dwarf haggles like his ancestors are watching. An alchemist panics at round numbers. Read the customer's mind and choose your approach. Improve your trade skills along the way. But more importantly, learn the ancient merchant art of knowing exactly when to shut up.

In this world magic dictates the value, not metal. Hundreds of items pass through your shop. Not all of them are honest about what they are. Some carry enchantments worth a small fortune. Some are wrapped in illusions that make a rusty dagger look like a legendary blade. And some are cursed badly enough to turn the next owner into a chicken.

Adventurers need gear and you need what is inside the dungeon. Arm them, match their class to the right items and point them toward caves, goblin dens and dark places. Then wait. If they come back, you get the first pick of whatever they dragged out. If they do not come back, someone will eventually bring their equipment to your shop.

A big skill tree with five branches opens up as the business grows. Appraiser, Negotiator, Shadow Merchant, Craftsman, Magnate. Each one changes how the shop works. Spot illusions before they cost you. Talk customers into paying more. Learn to work the black market without getting caught. Repair and enchant your own stock. Build trade networks across the kingdom.

And... this is probably where we should warn you about the pigeon. There is a foul-mouthed pigeon who has strong opinions on fiscal policy and your negotiation skills. Prepare your finest breadcrumbs before opening the shop. It won't make him nicer but it might make him quieter.
