SUBJECT 404
About the Game

About This Game
Subject 404 is a psychological horror game where you awaken as a test subject inside an unknown facility.
You are not given a name.
You are not given answers.
You are only given instructions and a number.
A panel speaks to you.
You are expected to obey.
Gameplay
The panel issues a continuous stream of commands that must be followed under time pressure.
Each command places you in a different situation:
Shooting specific targets
Locating objects inside the room
Navigating short vehicle sequences
Completing brief but stressful interactive challenges and more
The commands are fast, unpredictable, and intentionally disorienting.
Hesitation is often fatal.
Failure Has Consequences
If you make a mistake, the Executioner arrives.
You don’t see its face.
You only hear it approaching.
Death sends you back to the beginning.
Endless Rooms
Each room contains:
A door
A command
A choice under pressure
Complete the command correctly and the door opens, leading to the next room.
Each chapter requires a set number of successful commands before reaching a Safe Zone.
Safe Zones and Anomalies
Safe Zones remove time pressure — but not unease.
Inside them, you may encounter:
Environmental anomalies
Scattered notes and fragments of information
Narrative Approach
No cutscenes
No forced camera control
No interruptions
The narrative unfolds naturally as you move, observe, and interact with the environment.
Visual Style & Atmosphere
PS1-inspired low-poly visuals
Low resolution and visual instability
Cold, sterile, and unsettling environments
The visual style is not nostalgic — it is designed to feel uncomfortable.
Subject 404 is a short but intense psychological horror experience about obedience, control, and the consequences of hesitation.
