Arc 0: The Failed Isekai

Welcome to the year 2027!

You are Haruto Saito, a soldier of Japan’s Self-Defense Forces, who has spent years fighting on distant lands in the name of his country. As with any dangerous job, it couldn’t end well — one day, Haruto loses all his comrades under his command and, by a cruel twist of fate, survives alone.

Upon returning home, tormented by guilt and regret, he faces a society terrified by the aftermath of war. Unable to find his place, Haruto risks being sent to newly established rehabilitation institutions for soldiers — places that resemble psychiatric hospitals with one-way tickets.

Naturally, according to the laws of the genre — and thanks to the power of the plot engine — fate couldn’t simply ignore our would-be protagonist. It throws him into a perhaps fateful encounter with a mysterious man who invites Haruto to become a teacher — or rather, a guardian — for four troubled teenagers in a new rehabilitation project called “Quiet Classroom.” It’s an offer that gives him a chance to avoid forced admission to the institution.

Here, Haruto meets his future students — frankly, rather cliché ones. Now he must decide: is he ready to take responsibility for other people’s, no less tragic, lives — or does the prospect of a daily horse dose of sedatives in a mental hospital still sound more appealing?
