In the chandeliered saleroom of Calthorpe's—an old London auction house quietly fighting for its life—star auctioneer Julian Ashby is preparing the season-defining event: The Aslanov Collection. Three weeks before the hammer falls, the pillars of his sale begin to collapse at once: the "rediscovered" Old Master that made his name shows signs of forgery, a temple deity's immaculate provenance hides wartime looting, and the consignor's fortune is a sanctioned machine disguised as elegance.

As pressure mounts from the boardroom, the press, and the calendar itself, Julian is pulled into three incompatible romances—each with a woman who holds a different truth he can't un-know—and forced to decide what he's willing to withdraw… and what he'll risk offering with no reserve.

Lara Aslanova — The Wife
Lara is the sanctioned magnate's glittering young wife—and, on paper, the "clean" owner of a fortune desperate to reach the market. She offers Julian an arrangement: staged closeness as cover, the sale as her exit, and the collection as leverage—because leaving her marriage any other way could be fatal. To Julian, Lara is performance honed into survival… and the dangerous possibility that something real is hiding under it.



Sophea Lim — The Barrister
A formidable British-Cambodian cultural-restitution barrister, Sophea is suing to pull a looted Koh Ker deity from Julian's sale and send it home. She is also Julian's estranged wife, separated for nearly a year with an unsigned divorce still haunting both their desks. To Julian, Sophea is both opposing counsel and unfinished history: brilliant, combative, and the one person whose judgment cuts past every charm he's ever used.
