Night Wash: GE-418-NK

About the Game

The last bus leaves you at the car wash a few minutes before ten. A poster by the entrance asks if anyone has seen a missing man. He had your job.

You are the night attendant, ten at night to six in the morning, six nights in a row. You never meet the manager. He calls, and he leaves his orders on the board.

  • Greet each driver at the window and pick the wash program
  • Read the plate on the camera and write it in the register
  • Take the cash or the card, then start the tunnel

Behind the booth runs a real roller tunnel: pre-soak, foam, brushes, rinse, wax, dryer. When a brush jams, you walk in and free it by hand. Cut the power first. The machine is loud enough to cover anything, and some nights you will want it to stop.

Four cameras watch the entrance, the tunnel, the exit and the bench where drivers wait. They do not always show what the window shows. Some regulars have a star next to their name, and the manager wants their cars washed with nothing written down. The man before you wrote everything down.

  • Six nights, seven endings, and an endless night after any of them
  • Rent is due on the sixth night. The pay will not cover it, and the manager offers an advance
  • The station wears out: bristles, nozzles, dead tubes, a dirty camera lens. Order the parts between nights, or work around them
  • Every night has its weather: rain, low fog, a storm, and a sixth night that is far too quiet
  • A story told by what is left lying around: the local paper, the radio bulletin, a guard binder kept since 1987 and the notebook of the man before you
  • A PS1 look: 240 lines, wobbling geometry, dithered colour and fog

Follow the orders, or keep what you find.
