You Are the Reason is a story-driven pixel psychological horror RPG about death, salvation, distortion, and love.

The collective unconscious desire for death has caused the world itself to become distorted and abnormal. Fifteen-year-old Youyuan, who lost her parents, possesses a strange ability: through her blood, she can calm people attempting to take their own lives and make them abandon the act, while also sensing the presence of death itself. As the only “Savior” capable of erasing the entity known as the “Reason,” she follows her foster mother to Zhuhe, a county town under Harbin in Heilongjiang Province, and enrolls at the local key high school, Zhuhe High School. There, she searches for the “Reason,” the embodiment of accumulated Death Will, planning to gain “its” complete trust before killing it and restoring the world to the so-called “correct world.”

By 2019, the energy of the Death Will has grown increasingly intense, causing abnormal suicides to surge. According to Youyuan’s own senses and the data recorded by the Death Will energy detector built by her foster mother, every clue currently seems to point toward one of her classmates——Weiyue.

Youyuan originally approaches Weiyue for one reason alone: to gain his trust. Yet this gentle classmate, who always seems to wear a smile, gradually becomes the one who comforts her amid a daily life already beginning to collapse——the one who stays beside Youyuan as her mind slowly deteriorates from being unable to save everyone and from having seen far too many corpses. Through one death after another on campus, their conversations over the internet, and the secrets they gradually begin revealing to each other, Youyuan starts to realize that she can no longer see the living person standing in front of her as nothing more than a “target” she will one day have to erase with her own hands. Little by little, the two fall into an abyss in which they try to save one another, even as they are driven toward ever greater extremes……

Meanwhile, more and more inexplicable distortions begin appearing throughout the school, the streets, and even within the people and things that once seemed completely ordinary.

The abnormalities Youyuan can sense, the numbers recorded by the detector, the information revealed by the Otherworld Prophet, and everything she has witnessed with her own eyes all seem to be pushing her, little by little, toward one single and correct answer.

……But are they really pointing toward the same truth?

The words that cannot be spoken aloud in reality are sent into chat windows, drawn into OCs, and hidden behind usernames no one knows.

And the quiet county-town school life that once seemed almost painfully ordinary is being submerged, distorted, and finally broken apart by the will of death, little by little.

Kill him? Save him? Or keep living for him?

• Shape the Narrative: Alter the course of the story through your choices and by uncovering hidden conditions. Unlock multiple distinct endings, or perhaps... do something unspeakable?

• Authentic Hometown Setting: Explore a world inspired by the developer's actual hometown. Experience the authentic atmosphere of a Heilongjiang county-level city and the high-pressure academic environment of its only key high school as the story unfolds.

• Most of the game’s main characters are students living in the small county-level city of Zhuhe in 2019. Deeply shaped by internet culture, they are drawn to anime, games, and various online subcultures, while often remaining outside the mainstream social circles of school life. Through their perspectives, players will experience the everyday lives of these small-town teenagers, as well as the ways people communicated, connected, and expressed themselves within China’s online subculture communities in 2019.

• Striking Visual Contrast: Features high-saturation, solid-color binary pixel art for in-game CGs, contrasted with low-saturation, realistic map designs. This sharp visual divide immerses players deeply in the dizzying intersection of reality and distortion.
