Microlandia

About the Game

Microlandia is a city builder with a cute, classic look and feel and a deep socioeconomic simulation under the hood based on real-world datasets and research.

Build a city from the ground up

Plan a city where people will live and work. Lay down roads and a bus network. Build hosuing, businesses, public works and parks of diverse types, each with different abilites and tradeoffs. Every decision affects what happens to your residents.

Every person has a life

Every citizen is simulated one by one. They hold a job at a company, pay rent to a greedy landlord, they can get sick and need a functional hospital with appropriate staffing and capacity. If they stay broke long enough, they consider a carreer in the criminal underworld. None of this is random, but second-order effects from your choices as a mayor.

The city talks back

A newspaper covers everything happening in your city. Crime reports with real addresses. Unemployment statistics will be exact. Every story emerges from what's happening in your city and you will be blamed for all the bad news. Every five years, a random incident hits and will test your urban planning abilities: Heatwaves, Cyberattacks, Recessions, and more.

Policy matters

You have total control over income, sales and corporate tax. You can charge business licenses, bus fares, parking fees and more. Set any rate too high and cost of living will be unbearable. Set it too low and your city goes broke. Every option shapes the economy, and without revenue you can't fund public works and services.

Modeled after data from real cities

We're making the most detailed city simulation we can, modeled after data from real cities: Simulation mechanics are modeled from data sources like World Bank, OECD and the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. Our goal is to make a city builder that faithfully represents the challenges of modern city life.

Active development

The game is under active development and we have ambitious plans for years to come. There will be no DLCs or Microlandia 2. Instead, we will keep updating and improving the base game. No in-game purchases, we believe it's the worst invention since pineapple in pizza.
