Welcome to Shah Mat, a story about a mysterious tournament that finds its way into Alex’s life at the exact moment boredom hits its peak.

You play as Alex, who has just begun a two-week vacation from work—hoping for rest, clarity, and maybe a spark of inspiration. Instead, after days of mindless scrolling, they stumble upon a strange post left by a peculiar user known only as The Mastermind.

Drawn in by her playful yet unsettling charm, what begins as a simple online exchange quickly becomes an invitation Alex can’t quite explain—and can’t quite refuse.

Once connected to the tournament, Alex meets five other players, each carrying their own goals, tempers, and secrets. There’s the calm, sharp-minded Carla, the meticulous, detail-obsessed Andrew, the loud, bold Leila, the bright-spirited Lin, and the fiercely driven Steve. Overseeing them is Georges, a co-host whose constant discomfort around the Mastermind raises more questions than answers.

And then there is The Mastermind herself—joyful, unpredictable, always watching—who seems to know far more about her players than she should.

Across three tense days, alliances form, rivalries spark, and trust becomes a rare and costly luxury. Every interaction matters. Every choice shapes how Alex sees the others—and how they see Alex in return.
