El Cipitío: The Cuscatlecan Legends

About the Game

The Cipitio and the Cuscatlecan Legends is a retro game with 16-bit pixel art style. It is a TOP-DOWN TWIN-STICK SHOOTER, a 2D shooting game with a top-down perspective that combines retro mechanics with a story inspired by Salvadoran folklore.

In this world, El Cipitio, son of La Siguanaba, is trapped in an ancient curse. La Siguanaba, punished by the god Tlaloc for deceiving her husband, was condemned to become a terrifying apparition that frightens men near rivers and streams. As a consequence of this punishment, her son, El Cipitio, was transformed into an immortal goblin who never ages or dies. Though mischievous and playful, El Cipitio feels tormented by eternity, and in his despair, he decides to turn himself into stone to escape the endless loneliness.

During the two thousand years that El Cipitio remains asleep, humanity nearly becomes extinct after a great war. The survivors adopt pre-Columbian cultures as their religion and, through the technology of the ancient gods, manage to channel their power. However, human greed leads them to create monstrous creatures to fight among themselves, provoking the wrath of the gods, who eventually abandon the Earth, leaving their technological advances behind.

Taking advantage of the chaos, a dark sorcerer, a malevolent entity that has existed since ancient times, begins to plot a plan to seize this ancestral power. Recruiting mythological beings from Salvadoran folklore—such as La Chancha, El Padre Sin Cabeza, La Descarnada, El Justo Juez de la Noche, and even La Siguanaba herself—the sorcerer gathers an army of dark creatures.

Faced with this threat, the god Tlaloc decides to awaken El Cipitio, giving him the mission to stop the dark sorcerer. To aid him, Tlaloc grants him the manifestation of his warrior spirit, Ixtli, who together with the Cadejo Blanco will accompany El Cipitio on his epic adventure to save the world.
