ECHOES OF MEMORY

Some memories refuse to be forgotten.

Japan, 1992.

Neurophysiologist Ren Adler travels to the remote mountain village of Mizunari. People are missing, testimonies contradict one another, and some of the evidence does not match what those involved remember.

With the help of Aki, who knows the village and its surroundings, Ren begins looking for answers. His former colleague Dr. Maya Kessler also becomes increasingly involved in an investigation where every discovery seems to raise another question.

What first appears to be a series of unusual incidents gradually turns into a case where memory and evidence do not always tell the same story.

Investigate, compare, draw conclusions

Echoes of Memory is a visual novel with investigation and adventure elements.

Search locations throughout Mizunari, examine objects and collect evidence. Much of the investigation revolves around analog media: microcassettes, photographs, local records, handwritten documents and telephone or switchboard technology.

Clues can be connected on the caseboard to form working theories. But your conclusions are not guaranteed to be correct. A bad assumption can damage evidence, change what happens next or lead to a Bad End.

Choices and relationships

The way Ren treats the people around him matters.

Conversations can develop differently, trust can be gained or lost, and some decisions continue to affect events much later in the story.

The game includes different relationship outcomes, numerous individual Bad Ends and alternative results for key situations.

The main story is told across eight chapters followed by a standalone epilogue. Optional EX chapters provide additional character perspectives and extra context without being required to understand the main route.

The time period is part of the investigation.

There are no smartphones, cloud backups or instant online searches. Information survives on paper, film and magnetic tape.

To understand what happened in Mizunari, you will need to search carefully, compare what you find and sometimes question whether a memory is really as reliable as it feels.
