DAWG - Digital Audio Workstation Game

DAWG - Digital Audio Workstation Game

About the Game

Make music instead of managing software, do something creative instead of scrolling

DAWG is a music creation tool disguised as something you actually want to open.

Sketch drums in seconds. Layer melodies. Switch from a simple pattern grid to a full piano roll when you need precision. Shape your sound with live synthesis, real-time effects, mixing tools, MIDI input, and WAV export, all powered by a custom real-time DSP engine.

Includes dynamic tutorials, so you can learn while having fun. Built for people who want to make beats.

Why DAWG feels different

Start simple. Go deep when you want.
Use Simple Mode to tap in patterns fast with a step locked grid that keeps ideas musical. Switch to DAW Mode for full piano roll editing with note length, velocity, drag editing, marquee select, quantize, and snap. Your work stays intact when you switch.

Make drums without the usual chore.
Build beats across 8 drum tracks with 5 built-in kits, then go further with custom kit recording. DAWG is designed to keep rhythm programming immediate, visual, and satisfying.

Play with real instruments, not placeholders.
DAWG includes 9 instruments, 43 voices, and 5 drum kits, each with its own sound engine, grid behavior, and effects chain:

  • Drums - kick, snare, hat, perc across 8 tracks

  • Bass - Sub Bass, Synth Bass, 808, Pluck, Reese, 303

Future

Once the core of the game is stable enough and if the community is interested, 3 modules could be added to DAWG:

Arcade mode - Rhythm game inside DAWG (drums- or note-oriented — Guitar Hero style)

Multiplayer - Support for 4-player local multiplayer. Up to 4 players sharing the same "session" and grid

Story mode - Music creation journey, where the player grows from a beginner experimenting in a small room into someone exploring a bigger world of music, locations, characters, creative challenges and day-based progression - "zero to hero" style.

At this stage all three future features (Arcade, Story mode and Multiplayer) should be understood as an in-development framework and project direction, not a promised feature set.

The foundation is being explored alongside the core music system and if the community is interested, there is a chance of adding them to the game. All three features are already developed to some level, but are still far from a releasable state.
