But Why?

But Why?

About the Game

Penguhill 🐧

Penguhill is a 2-6 player, physics-based co-op 3D platformer, inspired by a penguin that leaves the flock and keeps walking toward the mountains.

But you are not alone here.
With the wrong partner
 you will fall together.

Spirit & Penguin Bond đŸ€ (PLAYER–PLAYER MECHANIC)

Each team consists of two different players:

  • 🐧 Penguin Player – moves through the physical world and overcomes obstacles

  • đŸ‘» Spirit Player – a semi-transparent, hologram-like partner bound to their penguin

Penguins and spirits are controlled by separate players.
A single player can never control both.

Spirits act as mobile checkpoints for their bound penguins:

  • If a penguin falls → it respawns next to its bound spirit

  • If a spirit falls → both the spirit and the penguin are considered fallen

  • When the spirit is disabled → the penguin is left vulnerable

Each player is bound only to their own partner.
No spirit can save another penguin.

Physics-Based Co-op Climbing 🧗

  • Active ragdoll character controller

  • Slippery surfaces, wind zones, rotating hammers

  • Flying platforms, waterfalls, rivers

  • Timing, balance, and constant communication are essential

Some obstacles:

  • Affect only spirits

  • Affect only penguins

  • Or affect both

Who leads, who supports, and who takes the risk
is always decided by the players.

đŸ‘„ 2, 4, or 6 Players – Team-Based Chaos

  • 2 players → 1 spirit–penguin team

  • 4 players → 2 teams climbing simultaneously

  • 6 players → 3 teams, maximum chaos, constant shouting

No one reaches the summit alone.
Only coordinated teams make it to the top.

Style & Atmosphere 🎹

  • Low-poly & stylized visuals

  • Cold mountains, strong winds, a true sense of height

A world that looks cute,
but never forgives mistakes

Penguhill is built entirely around asymmetric co-op.

Every climb is a shared risk. Every mistake has consequences.

We always keep pushing, even after we fall. "But Why?".
