Ashes of Darkness is a soulslike action game set in the Middle Ages. You play as a knight venturing into devastated lands shaped by the fall of an ancient kingdom and an ever-present sense of danger.

The story is told subtly through the environment, enemies, and the few characters still clinging to life. Nothing is explained outright; the world slowly reveals itself as you explore and push forward.

Combat focuses on positioning, pacing, and reading enemy behavior. You can attack, dodge, and use abilities, with parrying available as an optional, high-risk tool. Parries are not required, but they reward precise timing and knowledge of enemy patterns.

As you progress, character growth becomes essential. Defeating enemies and bosses allows you to improve attributes, unlock abilities, and equip artifacts that directly affect how you fight, letting you shape your own playstyle.
