About the Game

Midnight. More slices of someone else's ordinary life.

From the night you sign the contractor agreement, you are the moderator on the night shift. You sit at the terminal you were issued, review each short video that comes in, and decide: approve, or report. That was supposed to be the whole job.

Some of the videos are not normal.

[The job]

• Review the night's posts one at a time, in order.

• Approve if nothing is wrong. Report it if you find an anomaly. Decisions cannot be undone.

• Missing one is a mistake. So is reporting a clean post — both count the same way.

• The anomaly doesn't stay inside the video. It reaches the terminal, and it reaches you.

• The contract runs eight nights. See it through.

[An anomaly can be anywhere on screen]

Most of them are in the video: something crossing behind a window, the shape of a dog, the direction water falls. But on some nights the footage is entirely normal and the anomaly is still there — in the desktop wallpaper, in the shape of a button in the app. Some anomalies exist to make you doubt where you were looking.

The feed is not the whole stage. You are working inside a full desktop environment: messages from the moderator before you that grow stranger as the nights go on, an employee handbook that keeps getting revised, and the intranet portal of YONAKA Inc., the agency that placed you here. Everything you need for the job is probably already on this machine.
