And who is the maiden?
About the Game
She dances over the silver lake,
He moans beneath the larch.
Who is the youth? A hunter in the wood.
And who the maiden? I do not know.
— Adam Mickiewicz, "Świtezianka"
I've always liked this ballad — a mystery, choices with consequences and Slavic themes. That's the starting point for this game.
You arrive in Sielany as travelers, not long after a young man vanished from the village. Or so everyone insists. Your team consists of three companions — picked from six archetypes, each pulling from different strengths — and a handful of days before people stop talking to you, or before the lake stops staying quiet.
Most of the game is investigation: walking between the manor, the inn, the dock, the wild shore, and a few places the village would rather you didn't ask about. What you find goes into a notebook — testimonies, contradictions, things people let slip. When you push your luck, it comes down to a dice trial against your party's strengths, and if it goes badly, you get one chance to push back with Will.
There are 11 endings. Who you brought, what you believed, and how you treated the thing that eventually rises from the lake — all of that changes how the story closes. Some endings are almost kind. Others aren't.
The story is adapted from "A kto dziewczyna?" by Adam Wołoszczuk, a finalist of Quentin 2019 — the competition for best RPG scenario. I built the game, the systems, and the UI myself; the art and music were generated with AI, though I spent a lot of time getting them to actually feel like one consistent place rather than a pile of generated images.
It's short — about 30-40 minutes for one playthrough — and meant to be replayed rather than padded out.
