Amalu, Wells between worlds

Amalu, Wells between worlds

About the Game

“When the wells of the Atlas mountains run dry, a young shepherd follows the moon’s reflection into the depths below…”

Amalu is a mystical, atmospheric pixel-art 2D Metroidvania platformer inspired by Amazigh and North African folklore.

“Amalu” is a Tamazight word meaning “shadow,” “reflection,” or “symbol.” It’s a concept rooted in Amazigh storytelling, a word often tied to memory, spirit, and the things that remain even when everything else fades.

Thoughtful Platforming & Exploration

Amalu blends precise 2D platforming with exploration and puzzle-solving:

  • Carefully crafted levels that reward curiosity

  • Environmental puzzles that evolve as worlds shift

  • Non-linear and backtracking that reveals new meaning, not repetition

A World Written in Symbols

The game’s environments are shaped by glyphs, sigils, and symbolic systems inspired by ancient Amazigh tradition and folklores from North Africa

  • Read and activate mystical glyphs to alter the environment

  • Shift between interconnected worlds to reveal hidden paths

  • Use knowledge, not force, to overcome obstacles and puzzles

Every symbol tells a story. Every puzzle is a sentence waiting to be read.
